The purpose of this massage is for relaxation using Swedish massage techniques, which are slow, long, flowing and soothing techniques that are repetitive. This type of massage helps with decreasing stress, decreasing anxiety, reducing muscle tension, promoting relaxation, and sleep. What is Swedish Massage?
Swedish Massage is the modality that is most common when people think of massage and it is the most well known. The primary goal of Swedish massage is to relax the entire body. Like all massages it helps the body improve its circulation. It involves soft, long, kneading strokes, rolling of the skin and muscle, as well as light, rhythmic rocking and tapping strokes, on the topmost layers of the muscles. It is a passive treatment. The likelihood of being stretched or maneuvered into different positions is low. By relieving muscle tension, this modality can be both relaxing and energizing.
This is the massage you choose when you want to decompress, feel pampered and spoil yourself. Pressure is adjusted for the your comfort. There is no deep tissue work, like trigger point work.
The Purpose of a Relaxation Massage:
The purpose of this modality is to relieve stress and muscle tension. It will leave you oozing with a sense of wellbeing. This type of massage helps to relieve back pain and neck pain breaking up tight, tense muscles and soft tissue. It will also help soothe muscle soreness and sprains.
When the body is relaxed, you become much less prone to injury as the muscles and soft tissue of the body are less tight and tense.
It is also a great option for the end of a long and hard week at work when you need to de-stress. It can help you relax into the weekend. This type of massage can serve as a form of transition between working hard with potentially high levels of cortisol, to entering relaxation mode and experiencing high levels of serotonin instead.
